Before the voting for the Kerala state assembly on April 6, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had announced that everyone would get the vaccine against Covid-19 for free in the state.

The announcement was reiterated by Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Issac and Health Minister K Shailaja.

But, Kerala CM did a U-turn Tuesday.

He wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for free doses of the Covid vaccine.

The promise of free vaccine was reiterated over and over during the campaigning for three-phase local body polls in December.

The same promise was repeated by the ministers during campaigning for the assembly polls.

The state voted in one phase for 140 seats of the state assembly on April 6. The counting of votes will start on May 2.
