The Supreme Court Tuesday stayed the arrest warrant against former IPS officer and BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh.
Ghosh has moved the top court alleging it was an act of vendetta by the state government.
The court directed the arrest warrant to be kept in abeyance till the conclusion of the polls in West Bengal.
The case is related to poll violence in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Considered once close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Ghosh had a bitter fallout in 2018. Since then, she has been alleging the state police is haunting her on the directions of the chief minister.
The state police have also lodged several cases against her husband M A V Raju.
In 2018, the West Bengal CID was on a nationwide hunt for her and had declared her “missing”. Her husband was also picked up to trace her down.
Ghosh is contesting this assembly election from Derba constituency of West Midnapore against Trinamool Congress candidate Humayun Kabir, also a former IPS officer.
The voting for the 294 seats of the West Bengal assembly is spread over eight phases, starting March 27. The counting of votes will start on May 2.
