India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will launch 14 satellites into orbit from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota. The ISRO will be sending up PSLV-C47 with 14 satellites, the Cartosat-3 and 13 commercial nanosatellites at 9.28 am on November 27, 2019.

PSLV-C47 is the 21st flight of PSLV in ‘XL’ configuration (with 6 solid strap-on motors). This will be the 74th launch vehicle mission from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota.

About 17 minutes into its flight, the PSLV rocket will first sling into orbit Cartosat-3 which will have a mission life of five years. After a minute, the first of the 13 US nanosatellites will be ejected into orbit. The final nanosatellite will be put into its orbit at 26 minutes and 50 seconds.

According to ISRO, 12 of the US nanosatellites are named as FLOCK-4P are earth observation satellites and the 13th is called MESHBED, a communication testbed satellite.

“The 44-metre-tall, about 320-ton PSLV-XL is a four-stage/engine rocket powered by solid and liquid fuels alternatively. The rocket has six strap-on booster motors to give additional thrust during the initial flight stages,” a statement released by ISRO said.

According to ISRO, Cartosat-3 satellite is a third-generation agile advanced satellite having high-resolution imaging capability. The satellite will be placed in an orbit of 509 km at an inclination of 97.5 degree. PSLV-C47 will also carry 13 commercial nanosatellites from the United States of America as part of a commercial arrangement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), Department of Space.
