An idol of Bhagwan Hanuman Ji has been desecrated by an unknown miscreant in Itmad-ud-Daula, Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in Mahavir Nagar, a densely populated area on Tuesday morning. The Times of India reported that the vandalism has triggered anxiety in the area.
The police said that the miscreant gouged out the eye of Hanuman idol. The idol was reportedly replaced by afternoon.
The Times of India quoted the priest of the temple, Shri Mahavir Das, as saying, “It seems the incident took place in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.”
An FIR was lodged against an unknown person under IPC section 153.
Udayveer Singh Malik, station house officer of Itmad-ud-daula said that residents reported about the vandalised idol early in the morning. “We are trying to find CCTV camera in the area to look the footage of any suspect movement around the temple,” he added.
Earlier too, in and, at least 15 cases of vandalising idols of god/goddess and eminent personalities have been reported. In an incident reported earlier, a Muslim youth entered a Temple in Khatoli (Uttar Pradesh) in July and attempted to break the idol of Bhagwan Hanuman Ji. He also abused the devotees worshipping at the Temple. Later the police detained the miscreant and charged case against him.
