As Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take on Digvijaya Singh, Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency will witness one of the most ideological of all the poll battles witnessed in the recent times. This contest has an import and implication that ranges beyond an electoral calculus. It is a fight between two world views– one, hell bent upon to shame Bharat pitted against the other, resolved to uphold its honour.
Sadhvi Pragya’s struggle
‘Saffron terror’, a term designed to defame the entire Hindu community, was first coined by Frontline magazine in 2002. A section of the media picked up this term to denigrate Hindus in the context of politically motivated arrests in 2008 Malegaon blasts. Taking the baton further, the then Home Minister P Chidambaram never missed any opportunity to vilify Hindus and their saints. Just to gain political mileage, the Hindu saints were projected as terrorists.
Axiomatic triumph of the truth has, at last, started unfolding over the few years, not just in the case of Sadhvi but also in several other cases in which Hindu Sanyasins were falsely implicated. Text book case on hand is the acquittal of Swami Aseemanand in Ajmer dargah, Mecca Masjid and Samjhautha Express blast cases by National Investigating Agency (NIA) Special Courts in March 2017, April 2018 and March 2019, respectively.
One would recollect how a reporter of ‘The Caravan’ magazine met Swami Aseemanand in Ambala Central Jail posing as an Advocate and tried to attribute a statement to Swami Aseemanand that some of the worst terror attacks were sanctioned by the Sangh. Now that falsehood stands shattered, so-called media has not been able to muster an iota of moral integrity, at least to apologise, if not to retract on misdeeds.
Now, coming to Sadhvi’s case, she was implicated under all conceivable stringent penal provisions, presently in force, including Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). However, on May 13, 2016, NIA, on its own volition, filed a Supplementary Report, under Section 173(8) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, informing that during the course of further investigation, it was transpired that Appellant has no concern with the offence and, accordingly, she was exonerated of all the charges leveled against her by ATS, as no case was made out against her. NIA also dropped the charges of the MCOCA against all the accused persons.
It is noteworthy that one Nisar Ahmed Haji Sayed Bilal, a resident of Malegaon, was permitted to be an intervenor in the High Court matter. Bilal objected for the grant of bail before the Bombay High Court and when his plea was rejected and bail was granted, he filed a Special Leave Petition before the Apex Court. Now, again, the very same intervenor has filed an Application before the Bombay High Court praying for restraining Sadhvi from contesting elections.
Ultimately, one has to bow down to the rule of law, however, one cannot be unmindful of the fact that criminal proceedings against Sadhvi are part of a larger political conspiracy scheme. One would well recall the infamous words of Rahul Gandhi to US Ambassador Timothy Roemar, unearthed via WikiLeaks: “The bigger threat may be the growth of radicalised Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community”.
Bereft of even a speck of nationalism, Congress knows well that its political survival will be under jeopardy unless it radicalises Muslims. And in order to radicalise Muslims, it has to build a pseudo narrative on Saffron/Hindu Terror. Congress knows far too well that a Hindu can never be radicalised or be a terrorist but then, being rendered shallow over the years, its very survival being under stake, it has to perpetrate some such agenda. This sinister design, in its most decadent phase, will now be tested on the anvil of the democratic process as Sadhvi Pragya, epitome of Hindu perseverance will combat Digvijaya Singh, warlord of the Hindu-hate fiefdom.
