Chikmagalur, Karnataka: BJP City General Secretary Mohammed Anwar (40) has been murdered and killed by suspected PFI terrorists in the city. Anwar’s car was stopped on the road and the assailants had knifed him at seven places on his body.
The police have registered an FIR on Asif and Yousuf Haji for the murder. The police say that the investigations are on. The two are suspected to be workers of PFI in the district.
Anwar, a resident of Uppalli Layout, was on his way to another location on Friday when the incident occurred at about 9.30 pm on the Gauri Canal Layout road. It has come to light that he was followed by the two assailants for a distance before waylaying his car.
Anwar, who was severely injured, was immediately admitted to the District Public Hospital here. However, the treatment was not successful and he breathed his last yesterday night.
Anwar’s brother Kabir has stated to the media that his brother was threatened by Yousuf earlier too. More details are awaited on the purpose of the murder.
However, soon after the murder, the town is simmering with tension and the police are taking all precautions to avoid further escalation. Local BJP leaders say that Anwar”s killing as part of a continuing spate of murders of RSS/BJP activists in the state. It can be recalled that, more than 20 BJP/RSS activists were murdered in Karnataka under the rule of Congress CM Siddaramaiah.
