Kerala is on its way to become the State with the most number of wanted persons, with Red Corner notices being issued to 23 people

‘Kerala tops in the number of terrorists’, reads NIA’s Red Corner Notice. It says, 23 people left Kerala for terrorist activities in 2015 and five of them are women. Report says, they joined IS. Maharashtra was at top in 2014 with 24. Kerala was behind with 19 at that time. But, in 2015 Kerala went to top!
Even though accurate figures of the terrorists or the number of terrorists jailed or convicted are not available, the following details give a crystal clear idea of what is happening in Kerala. An approximate estimate suggests that about 125 terrorists are in different jails in Kerala. Sangh oriented organisations and nationalist forces have been saying since long that Kerala has been a safe haven (and heaven too) for the terrorists and extremists. Because, both Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF always follow a soft line towards terrorist activities and ideologies, thanks to the cheap vote bank politics they adhere to. They look at the destructive forces as religious minorities and shed crocodile tears for their rights and human rights. Whenever an issue pertaining to a terrorist link or activity is exposed, both come out with chorus—“Minorities should not be harassed In the name of anti-terrorist actions.” This is what happened when the text books followed in the Peace International School, Kochi, were found injecting religious fanaticism. Lot of information was unearthed by media persons suggesting that the school was linked to the banned Islamic Research Foundation led by Zakir Naik. But, still no visible actions have been taken against the management of the school! This is deadly against the nationalist activists’ view that terrorism does not have any religion. Even police officers, both retired and still serving, share this sort of helplessness off record.
These pseudo-secularist and soft approaches towards the realities of the main stream political combinations, who have been either in treasury benches or in opposition since the last 60 years, have always pushed the state of Kerala to a situation where fissiparous tendencies turn a part of life. Those who oppose are branded as communalists, reactionaries, fascists, anti-minority, anti-dalit, anti-woman and what not!
People of Kerala have been paying a heavy price for this sort of anarchist doctrines. Maradu Massacre (May 2, 2003 in Kozhikode Maradu beach) was a blatant example for this. Eight innocent Hindus were massacred in day light in the beach by Islamic killers and both the then ruling UDF and Opposition LDF did not nod for a CBI inquiry for tracing the interstate and international links behind the carefully orchestrated mass killings. One prominent Left leader agreed in a channel interview that CBI inquiry would be effective to trace the links behind the massacre, but he would not ask for it; reason is simple: ‘It will be agreeing to what BJP says’! Kerala High Court sentenced 87 out of 123 accused for life imprisonment. Twenty four of them got bail from the Supreme Court.
In connection with the infamous Kashmir Recruitment case eleven extremists are still in jail. Its prime accused and suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Thadiyantavide Nazeer, a Keralite, is a convict in Kozhikode twin blast case and now is in Karnataka jail in connection with Bengluru blast case.
Eleven terrorists are in jail in connection with the Narath arms training case. Two convicts in the much talked about Panayikulam case of outlawed SIMI camp, are in 14 years rigorous imprisonment and three others got 12 years jail term. Another sensational case was of Prof TJ Jospeh’s hand chopping; thirteen were convicted in this regard. NIA has filed its final charge sheet concerning Wagamon SIMI terrorist camp case. The culprits were found to have conducted similar camps in different parts of the country. SIMI cadres were given physical training, arms training, training in manufacture of bombs, bike racing, rope climbing, etc.
Organiser had recently carried a story on the arrest of terrorists caught from Kanakamala, Kannur, a strong hold of CPM. Enquiries are still going on into bomb blasts took place in collectorates of Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kollam.
No concrete information is available about the status of the enquiry into Beipore boat blast case and Mittaitheru blasts, both in Kozhikode. Niyas, Rafiq, Sameer, Shibi and Shabeer were killed in an explosion while allegedly making bombs in Narikkatteri, Kozhikode district in 2011. There were reports those days that the youths were Gulf returnees and the conspiracy was hatched in a Gulf country. The intention was reported to be creating communal tension in Nadapuram area infamous for frequent clashes between CPM and Indian Union Muslim League cadres. Reports suggested that the dead youths belonged to IUML.
Abdul Nasser Madani who had to serve nearly 9 years in Tamil Nadu jails in connection with the blasts in Coimbatore, allegedly meant for killing LK Advani, which left 58 dead and 200 injured, was inducted in LDF during the 2009 parliamentary elections. He could share the dais with the then CPM secretary (currently CM) Pinarayi Vijayan. As soon as he was released from the TN jail in 2007, the LDF Home Minister and his ministerial colleagues shared dais with him when he was accorded a mammoth reception. And, he was given all freedom to run his hate politics in the state. Now, he is in a Karnataka jail in connection with the Bengluru blast case. Kerala Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution urging the immediate release of Madani from Tamil Nadu jails; this is a classic example of appeasement and vote bank politics in Kerala.
Recently two Maoists were killed in an encounter with the police in Nilambur forests in Malabar zone, Kerala. Immediately came the protests from human right activists and even CPI, the second largest partner in the LDF coalition government. CPI secretary Kanam Rajendran says, Maoists have very right to carry on their political activities and propaganda. Since no policeman was injured, it is construed as a fake encounter! Later on Malayalam TV channels did telecast the videos of the military training Maoists get in the forests. The killed Maoist leader was found carrying an AK-47 in the video!
Despite the aforementioned grave information pertaining to a tiny and literate state, no ruling or Opposition parties are ready to acknowledge the potential threat prevailing in Kerala. When BJP or any RSS oriented organisation raises the issue, they are immediately painted black and called communalists, fanatics, obscurantists, etc. Anti-RSS and anti-nationalist forces are not ready to call a spade a spade. BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan told this weekly, the terrorism draws its strength from the vote bank politics of both UDF and LDF. Hindu Aikyavedi general secretary RV Babu echoed Kummanam’s view.
