Marx-Lenin-Stalinism: Is it Scientific?

The Communists always maintain that Communism—and it alone—is a perfectly scientific system. But Communism has been, by this time, subjected to a thorough examination from various points of view, and its extremely unscientific nature has been amply established.
The exclusively economic foundation of its theory, the dialectical materialism, the historical materialism based on it, the theory of surplus value, the principle of class conflict, its theories about the State, the theory of revolution, the withering away of the State, its outlook on the relation between individual and society, its practice and so on—all have been ably and conclusively proved to be defective. Lord Keynes, the renowned economist, says about the ‘CAPITAL’ of Marx that it is “an absolete economic text book… not only scientifically erroneous, but without interest or application for the modern world”.
Proofs against Communism
And, fortunately, two kinds of such proofs are available. Firstly, the various alterations and additions introduced into Marxism by Lenin and Stalin themselves. Lenin’s theory of the strategy and tactics of revolution, his version of the dictatorship of the proletariat, his justification and organisation of the party as the vanguard of the proletariat, his doctrine of world revolution, his addition of the phase of capitalist imperialism and the restatement of the philosophic basis of Marxist materialism, and similarly, Stalin’s doctrine of Socialism on the one hand, the new turn he gave to the theory of revolution, the bureaucratic form of the party organization under him, his practically almost complete abandonment of the classical Marxist theory of State, his adoption of the agrarian policy, condemnation of absolute egalitarianism and the fostering of the national sentiment—all indicate clearly the imperfect and unscientific nature of Communism. Mr. RNC Hunt says about Stalin: ‘He uses, indeed, all the old slogans. Yet in fact he has so transformed Marxist theory that its founder would scarcely recognise it.” (RNC Hunt: The theory and Practice of Communism)
And the second proof is of the historical facts themselves. According to the theory of Communism, a revolution ought to have taken place first in the industrially most advanced country, but, in fact, it first took place in a very backward country like Russia and even today Communism is spreading mostly in the backward countries. The phase of imperialism developed in fact without any provision for the same in the original Communist theory. In many a country, the power has been captured not through a countrywide revolution, as the theory requires, but through a coup. In the USSR the interim period of the dictatorship of the proletariat has crossed the limits of all expectation and the State, instead of beginning to wither away, is getting stronger and stronger every day.
