CHILDREN, the word exam mostly creates a fear or anxiety in the mind of the students. Exams are meant to evaluate what one has learnt during the year. Most children feel out of control when they have to appear for an exam. The kind of questions that haunt students are:

  • Is their preparation adequate?
  • Have they revised well?
  • How is the paper  going to be?
  • Will they  be able to complete the paper etc.

All these worries do not allow one to study well for the exams.
So just relax!  You should know how to cope with exam stress. A little stress is good that keeps you motivated but don’t let the exam stress overcome you.
The following tips will help you to fare well in the examination:
Smart Study
If you feel that you  have not studied throughout the year, you still can achieve your target by smart study technique that is by dividing the syllabus/chapters according to their weightage and concentrating on all topics accordingly. Use bullet points, flowcharts, web diagrams, mind maps etc to cover your topics as this will enable you to study faster. Focus on understanding the concepts.
Do Sample Papers
Doing sample papers will help you check if you will finish the exam in the stipulated time.  If pratice test are available online or in the market, go for them. Many questions are similar to or verbatim from practice material.
Give your electronic gadgets a break
It is important to keep your mobile phones switched off while studying. It will help you concentrate better. Remember that you can’t go back to make a better beginning, but you can always start now and make a better ending.
Think Positive
Visualise success instead of negative thoughts of failure. Never think of failure during the days of exam. If you are thinking about failure during the exam, it means you are inviting stress to overcome you.
Don’t call up friends to ask about their preparation
Usually students call their friends and ask about their preparation for the exam. It is not good because if you ask your friend and you come to know that he has revised more chapters than you, you start thinking, “oh I am lagging behind, I may not be able to complete the chapters before papers”. It increases your stress.
Your worry time should become your study time
Stop worrying and start studying. A time table for your subjects will get you in the exam mode. Effective utilisation of time should be your top priority. Focus on not what you want to achieve but what you need to achieve.
Take adequate rest
It is essential to get proper sleep and rest as it will keep your mind fresh and help you to memorise and comprehend complicated concepts better.

Exercise
Physical exercise like running, jogging or skipping for 15-20 minutes every day will make you feel stress free and mentally fit. You can also do yoga and breathing exercises to keep you energetic and in peace with yourself.
Diet
Fruits and proteins are good source of energy. Avoid intake of heavy carbohydrates like rice and potatoes which will make you sleepy. Keep yourself hydrated. Food rich in vitamins and proteins, such as green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits, are a must. The nutrients will help your brain stay sharp. Don’t drink too much coffee, tea or fizzy drinks.
Take regular breaks
Taking breaks from study is vital to keeping your brain focussed and energised. Time away from the books will ensure that you don’t get bored or burnt-out on a particular subject.
Think about the time after the exam
Visualise the happiness on your face when the stressful period will be over. This works very well.
Take things light
Be Brave. You will face the exams well.
Above all have faith in yourself and God. Best of Luck from Organiser.                                                      Aniket Raja
