The Rashtriya Sewa Bharati, the leading umbrella organisation for about 1,000 voluntary organisaions in the country, appealed for help to the food victims in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. In an appeal made on December 3, the Rashtriya Sewa Bharati’s general secretary Shri Rishipal Dadwal said the devastating floods have caused heavy loss of human lives and property in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
He said the Cuddalore District and Chennai metropolitan city in Tamil Nadu and Nellor District of Andhra Pradesh witnessed unprecedented loss of human lives. About 30 km area around Chennai city has drowned in the flood waters. “These areas are in a wave of distress and mourning. All are shocked and saddened by the disaster of the nature. The heavy loss of life and property in both these states is unimaginable. More than 269 people reportedly died in the initial days only and lakhs are injured or have been rendered homeless. All essential services have severely crippled and the government machinery as well as the voluntary organisations are struggling hard to restore them. In such a difficult situation, it is the natural duty of all the Bharateeya citizens to come forward for the assistance to our suffering fellow citizens,” Shri Dadwal said in the appeal issued in New Delhi.
Shri Dadwal expressed satisfaction over the immediate response of the Central Government as well as State governments through the army and other security forces. Both the governments are making all efforts to provide possible help to the flood victims.
He pointed out that the karyakartas of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Rashtriya Sewa Bharati swung into action immediately after the floods and they are working round the clock to provide immediate relief to the victims. Some Sewa Bharati karyakartas have already started collecting funds in their respective areas to help the suffering brothers and sisters. “The Rashtriya Sewa Bharati has resolved to serve the flood affected people of Tamil Nadu (Chennai) and Andhra Pradesh. Our volunteers and karyakartas belonging to Sewa Bharati Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are already among the flood affected people, serving them tirelessly and trying to reach every victim of the natural calamity. We are sure that all our sensitive countrymen, voluntary organisations and karyakartas shall immediately take initiative to collect funds for this noble cause,” said Rashtriya Sewa Bharati general secretary Shri Rishipal Dadwal.
He said the funds and the material so collected will be sent to the respective places in flood affected areas through the Rashtriya Sewa Bharati. It is hoped that the people all over the country will stand up to help the fellow citizens who are in distress.
