Intro : For second time in a row the ABVP marked a clean sweep in DUSU elections. In JNU also it made a comeback by winning a seat of Joint Secretary after 15 years.
Celebrations followed everywhere from University campus to BJP headquarter in Delhi as the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) election results were announced. It is recorded that over 43 per cent students exercised their votes on September 11 in the keenly contested DUSU polls. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) bagged all the four posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. ABVP’s Satender Awana and Sunny Dedha were elected President and Vice-President of DUSU respectively. Anjali Rana won the post of secretary and Chhattarpal Yadav was elected Joint Secretary while Saurabh Sharma of ABVP was named the new Joint Secretary of JNUSU. After a long wait of 15 years, ABVP finally returns to JNU campus. It was in 2000 that an ABVP candidate won poll in JNU.
While talking to Organiser newly elected Joint Secretary of JNUSU Saurabh Sharma said, “I want to give all credit to our ABVP JNU team and all activists for this win. This victory comes after 15 years and is very special for us. It is the victory of ABVP agendas and its vision. This is the victory of nationalism and ideology. We came in this election with all student issues. And our future course of plan is to work on these issues.”
In DUSU elections Satender Awana defeated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI’s) Pradeep Vijayran by a margin of more than 6,000 votes and Sunny Dedha won the Vice-President’s post with 19,671 votes, defeating Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti’s (CYSS’s) Garima Rana by over 7,000 votes. Many top brasses of BJP congratulated ABVP for their win. National Secretary of BJP Amit Shah congratulated ABVP for their win and said that the splendid victory in two prestigious universities shows trends of youth towards the nationalist ideology based on Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and the philosophy of Antyodaya. He said, Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University is like a mini Bharat and students come here from all parts of the country to fulfill their dreams. Therefore, this victory represents the thinking of the youth of Bharat and it reflects how the youth of the country have been lapped in the ongoing projects and gave their support to these projects, run by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, keeping youth in the mind.
The DUSU elections result jolted the thriving confidence of CYSS which was claiming to win the elections in the posters and hoardings. The efforts of CYSS received no recognition by students and were restricted to banners only. The rock concerts alongwith the promises of free Wi-Fi didn’t cajole them into being driven by a non-ideological alternative. Overwhelmed with the Delhi Assembly Elections victory, Aam Aadmi Party used money and muscle power to win the DUSU elections but the students chose to vote for ideology.
After winning DUSU elections, National Secretary of ABVP Rohit Chehel told to Organiser that we were very much confident about the win. CYSS was nowhere in the race. Students gives mandate to us and we will work for them like always.
On ABVP’s victory in JNU, he said, “Now students want to align with nationalist forces. Many students are joining us as they saw a change in 2014 which they want in their campus also.”
