In a state where Hindi was protested, Shri Tarun Vijay, former Editor of Panchjanya and present Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) honoured with a famous Kamban Academy Award by Tamil writers and Justice Rama V Subramniyam, Tamil Nadu High Court Judge recently. Shri Vijay received the award at Karaikudi, the samadhi place of Kavi Chakravarty Kamban, the immortal author of Tamil Ramayana. The highly prestigious Kamban Academy ‘Aruntamizh Aarvalar Award’ (Ardent lover of Tamil) is given first time in history to any non-Tamil Indian by the Academy.
Justice Subramaniyan spoke emotionally about Shri Tarun Vijay's contribution for propagating Thiruvalluvvar and Kamban and said, “He has become a most admired and popular person in Tamil Nadu because of his love for Tamil language.”
Shri Tarun Vijay said, “It is a historic moment when a Hindi area's MP and RSS Swayamsevak has become first person in known history to be conferred this prestigious Tamil Award.” He will work to establish Kamban Academy for Tamil language and also to renovate appropriately great Kamban's Samadhi. He also announced Rs 5 lakh from his Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds to Kamban Academy Library. —Bureau Report
Muslim Girl facilitated for reciting Gita A 12-year-old Muslim young girl, studying in Class 6 of a Mira Road school in Mumbai, secured the primary spot in a Bhagwad Gita rivalry sorted out by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) recently. Mariyan, won the challenge from among 4,500 understudies who showed up for the opposition.
