Six people, including two women belonging to Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts, were arrested with 11 pistols and 22 magazines at Attari railway station in Punjab on March 7 when they were returning from Pakistan by Samjhauta Express. The weapons were concealed in the base of meat grinders, which were cut open with gas cutters at the railway station. The train runs twice a week between India and Lahore. The recovery of weapons from these is being connected with the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Some Muslims from Kairana town in Muzaffarnagar have been involved in arms smuggling for long time.
