Prof SC Mittal felicitated with Dr Vakankar Puraskar

Noted historian Prof Satish Chandra Mittal has been honoured with the 16th Dr Vishnu Vakankar Puraskar by the Baba Saheb Apte Smarak Samiti in Delhi on January 19. After doing PhD from the Kurukshetra University Shri Mittal started teaching in the same university and is now national president of the Akhil Bharatiya Itihaas Sankalan Yojna. He specialises on Indian national movement and is a renowned historian. The Puraskar is presented to those historians who have contributed in the propagation of glorious Indian history.

Speaking on the occasion RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Suresh Soni said Baba Saheb Apte focused on two topics—Sanskrit and History. He wanted that Sanskrit should become the language of the masses. He said if the history is distorted the future would also be distorted. Now since our history has been distorted we shall have to put an efforts to bring the real history into limelight.

Presiding over the function noted journalist and columnist Dr Vedpratap Vaidik said the western scholars wrote the Indian history on the borrowed sources because nobody was there to challenge them. They wrote the 1857 freedom movement as ‘revolt’. Was there our own Government at that time, against whom the public revolted? How can they say that the movement was a revolt. He said we should call it freedom movement of India. Veer Savarkar had called it first freedom movement of India.

RSS Sahsarkaryavah Dr Krishna Gopal said Pt Madan Mohan Malaviya contributed in all spheres of life and the Kashi Hindu University founded by him inspires for values even today. He said Mahamana is an ideal and inspiration for modern Vice Chancellors, but the evaluation of his contribution was not done fairly in Independent India. Dr Gopal was speaking at a seminar organised in Benaras by Mahamana Malaviya Mission on January 15. The topic of the seminar was “Contribution of Mahamana Malaviya and Swami Vivekananda in India’s reconstruction”.

He said Mahamana had multi dimensional personality and he established many organisations for the propagation of Hindi. Gurukul Kangari University in Haridwar was also formed with his inspiration. Even Acharya Shriram Sharma received the inspiration of propagating Gayatri Mantra from Mahamana. He never tolerated any kind of distortion or insult to dharma and sanskrit.

Prof Devendra Pratap Singh, national vice president of Mahaman Malaviya Mission said during the 19th century every year a great personality was born. Mahamana and Vivekananda had similar views for economy of the country.

Minority status to Jains is a divisive step: VHP

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) termed the UPA Government’s decision to extend minority status to Jains as politically motivated and aimed at dividing the society. In a statement issued in New Delhi on January 21 VHP general secretary Shri Champat Rai said the VHP does not consider any Jain living in India as minority as the community has contributed hugely in the development of the nation and enjoys glorious history. “This community has dedicated much to the country. Declaring this community as minority is definitely a dividing step. Declaration of it prior to the general elections creates suspicion on the intention of the Government. The Government is not aware that how much enmity this decision would create in the society,” he said.

Naxalism and Maoism is a big challenge—Govindacharya

“In spite of guiding the whole world about culture, thoughts and much more for more than 1,000 years, India is today facing an identity crisis. The nation is suffering from various kinds of problems and the problem is not sarkarvad alone but is of bazarwad. We have to identify our strength and weaknesses.  No mistake can be made while identifying the poison as nectar. We have to see India with the Indian perception and not by European. Our society is relationship based and we have been living in it since centuries. We must not forget our moral values. Neither Delhi can be understood as India, nor can India be understood by Delhi. Today Naxalism and Maoism are the challenges for the nation. It is high time to change the system,” said noted Swadeshi ideologue Shri KN Govindacharya at the launch of his book Vyavastha parivartan ki raah in Delhi on January 19. Chennai families take to serving the needy

As a pensioner, he received railway pension for 35 years. By that time, he had found no use for the pension amount since his son Narayanan, an engineer, took due care of his father. The pension amount thus saved grew into a tidy sum. One day just before his demise, the father instructed his son to see that the amount is used for the benefit of the needy. Promptly Narayanan, with the help of his younger brother Mahadevan, a swayamsevak, created an endowment in the name of his father and mother, ‘Madhava Seva Samiti’ of Chennai enabled the disbursement of interest amount to children of poor parents who scored well in the VII standard final exam. An annual disbursement function is held in Chennai Sangh Karyalaya every year for the past more than 10 years. This kind of a family caring for the needy in the society picked up momentum over the years. Family of Viswanathan, a senior karyakarta of yesteryears instituted another similar set-up to help poor college students.
