BJP leaders call on President in New Delhi
Later talking to reporters outside the President’s House, Shri Rajnath Singh said the party demanded that the enquiry in the riots should be done by a Supreme Court appointed judge.
On the other hand, BJP MLA Hukum Singh, who has been charged with giving the hate speech in the area inciting communal violence, said the President’s rule was the only option in the State. He said that the local administration ignored their warnings about the deteriorating situation. “We have submitted a written statement. We informed the local administration about the tension which prevailed in Muzaffarnagar since last six months. But they did not pay attention,” he said.
More than 45 people have died and hundreds displaced, as riots broke out between the two communities in western UP. A local court issued warrants against leaders belonging to various political parties like the BSP, BJP and the Congress for inciting violence, some of whom have been arrested.
“There is an Emergency-like situation in Uttar Pradesh. …there is no Government there. So, our representatives urged him to impose President’s rule in the State,” Rajnath Singh told the media persons. “All those who have suffered loss of life and property should be properly compensated,” he added.
