Vijayini, a novel on Savitri by Mridula Sinha released

DESPITE being an ancient character, Savitri still gives positive direction to the modern feminist movement. She is not a helpless woman, but a sadhika with an extraordinary fighting spirit. She brings back her husband without compromising her respect and dignity. There can be no other character to be imbibed by modern women other than Savitri who symbolises self-respect, sacrifice and self-strength,” said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Smt Sushma Swaraj, while releasing a novel, Vijayini, written by noted writer Smt Mridula Sinha in New Delhi recently.

Smt Swaraj congratulated Smt Sinha for presenting the story of Satyavan and Savitri in an interesting form and also in modern perspective. She stressed the need to present the story of great ancient women characters in modern perspective. She also said the politicians too should have proper understanding of the literature and history.

Introducing the story of Vijayini, Smt Mridula Sinha said after the autobiography of Sita in her previous book, Sita Puni Boli, she tried to present the gigantic personality of Savitri in this new novel. She said Savitri of Vijayini is a young girl who finds her way with self-respect. Editor of the book, Dr Sanjay Pankaj also spoke on the occasion.

Presiding over the function, noted writer Dr Narendra Kohli said the reason behind the victory of Savitri over Yamraj is not her super logic power, but also her struggle and sadhna, which basically generated such a great logical strength in her. Many distinguished personalities of Hindi literature were also present on the occasion.                            (FOC)
