LATE Kamei Thawajao met with an accident on 23.12.2012 at 3:30 pm at Damoh Railway Station between Katani and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh while travelling by Kolkata – Ajmer Express to reach Ujjain by midnight. He had got down at Damoh railway station to fetch water and rushed back when train started running. Unfortunately, his legs slipped and he fell down. He was badly wounded in both the legs and head. Due to multiple injuries and profuse bleeding, he died before he could be taken to nearby hospital.

Late Kamei Thawaijao was leading the team of 42 Janjati delegates  from Manipur to attend a National level Conference of Janjati leaders at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh on 24, 25, 26 December 2012. The 220 delegates from Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Assam and Sikkim were travelling in the same train to reach Ujjain with great enthusiasm but the railway accident which swallowed the life of our beloved K. Thawaijao, snatched away our smile from faces and dampened the happiness.

Over 2600 delegates mostly from various Janjati communities from all the states including Kerala to Kashmir and West Bengal to Gujarat had assembled and threadbare discussion took place on various problems faced by the nation in general and by 10 Crore strong Janjati people of the country in particular. Among several pertinent topics with regard to Janjati problems, the conversion crusade launched by the Church in Janjati areas giving birth to Christian insurgent and terrorist organisations were discussed and resolved to check by enlightening the Janjati Samaj about grave dangers posed by the Church to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the Country.

It was also resolved to draw the attention of various state governments and Central Government to have pervasive surveillance over the dubious and anti-national activities of Church with its missionaries masquerading as holy men and peace-makers engaged in evangelism and various missionary schools.

Late Kamei Thawaijao was a District Transport Officer (DTO) posted at Thoubal, Bishnupur and Imphal from time to time before he retired in 1999. He is survived by his wife Smti. Longmeilu Apui, two daughters (i) Mrs K Gaikulung and (ii) Miss K Thonkuleilu and five sons (i) K Gaikulung (ii) K Lanjailung (iii) K Gaimeilan (iv) K Makulung and (v) K Chagailung.
He served as Secretary Ragailong Youth Club (1971-73), Chairman of Monithong Kabui Co-operative Society under Ragailong Khangchu, Cashier Regailong Cultural Song and Dramatic Union (1981-83), Office Bearer of Ragailong Kamei Kaikhong Organization (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and a member of Steering Committee of conference on Zeliangrong Eternal religion and Eternal Culture (1994). Before he died on 23-12-2012, he was holding the responsibility of Vice President Tingkao Ragwang Chap-Riak Phom (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), a close associate of Sana Kanung and advisor to Kangla Utra Shanglen. He was actively involved in the celebration of Mera Houchangba at Kangla. He was the convener of Janjati Faith and Culture Protection Forum, Manipur unit . A condolence meeting was organized in his honour in Office of Kalyan Ashram, Chingmeiram wherein celebrities like Prof. Gangmumei Kamei, Dr. Brajkishore Sharma and Shri Tej Kumarji participated. Earlier, a condolence was offered during the Janjati Leaders’ Conference on 25th December at Ujjain.
