TODAY world is suffering from great financial crisis which has induced business leaders to seriously ponder over the roots of this malady. Their apprehension is that if this cause goes undetected it may result in still bigger crisis in future.
Though India was affected a little from this global melt down yet it did well with a GDP growth of 9 per cent a year back. Though it has come down to 6.5 per cent due to wrong policies of the government but Indian industrialists are capable of managing all difficult situations and still making progress. When superpower countries are still under the stress of recession our Indian entrepreneurs are busy acquiring companies overseas, and building overseas empire.
Indian businessmen like Tata, Ambani, Birla, Narayan Murti and others whose genius of entrepreneurship is second to none in the world are capable of making India an economic superpower, solving our problems of poverty and unemployment.
Today one third of Silicon Valley engineers are Indian. Wall Street is replete with Indians. The rise of Indians in the US is a story that keeps growing in the telling. President Obama describes India as indispensable to the future that we seek a future of security and prosperity for all nations. He makes no secret of his admiration of the contribution people of Indian origin make to his administration and to science and technology.
All this is due to the Atmasaiyam (self-restraint) of Gita, family values of Ramayan and traditional Indian wisdom derived from puranic literature.
Two years back there was news in Times of India that Gita is influencing the thought of America in a big way. Big business schools are introducing self-restraint of the Gita in order to boost the administrative ability of their managers and maintain peace of the mind also.
According to the Economic Times dated 11.05.2012 “The programme titled CEO’s Essence draws from the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
Indian institute of management, Calcutta arranges executive training progrmme for CEOS and business leader that will draw upon Ashoka’s inscriptions, Bhagwangita kautilya Arthashastra among others.
Indian school of Business Hydrabad arranges self-introspection programme which relies heavily on Indian wisdom and literature such as Bhgwad Gita, Puramik literature and Buddhist literature.
These programmes are designed to interpret learnings in the context of business challenges. Also, the idea is to drive home the lesson that the role of corporations should go much beyond shareholders’ wealth maximisation,’ we need to produce ethical leaders with social and emotional intelligence to build a cohesive team says XLRI professor ISF Irudayaraj. To this end, IIM-Kozhikode organises a workshop called Leadership Clinic that helps senior managers, mostly high potentials future leaders, to delve into the power of the mind.
On his lessons from ISB’s transformational leadership training, Ganges Internationale CEO Sunil Goyal says, ‘’Progrmmes that draw upon concepts of intellectual capital, mind, culture, ethics and psychology help drive business objectives The programme teaches you how to transform yourself to transform the business. According to Deepak Chandra, Deputy Dean, ISB there is a need to look beyond the general managerial attributes, into one’s inner self to create and implement vision for the next generation and universal welfare.
