ABVP National Executive Council Meeting

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad appealed to the youth to dislodge the most corrupt and totally failed UPA government from power. The appeal came at the three day National Executive Committee meeting organised in Ernakulam from May 24 to 27. Alleging that the present Central Government is directionless, crippled, helpless before its constituents and violent organisations, the largest student organisation termed it as the most insensitive government the country had so far. A total of 196 delegates from across the country participated in the meeting.
In a resolution on present educational scenario the ABVP said India will not be in a leading position unless it ensures high standards in research. Therefore, the government should allocate more funds for research activities so that the country benefit from the research output of its youngsters. “ABVP demands to rule out irregularities in disbursing scholarships of research students and also to start new schemes. The ABVP welcomes the provision by the Central government to provide for compulsory internship of one year in a rural area for students in the MBBS course. ABVP feels that along with benefits for the rural population, these students will be introduced to the real conditions prevailing in these areas and will also gain hands-on experience,” the resolution said.
Expressing grave concern over the poor education and Governments opportunities in north-eastern states, the ABVP said the corruption and anarchy in the field of education and development have forced nearly 1.5 lakh students to migrate to other states for education. It also said that the Central and particularly the State governments are fully responsible for this state of affairs in the north-eastern states. “Rs. 640 crore were given to the north-eastern states for promotion of education under 10th Five Year Plan, but even today there are only 14 Universities, 33 Engineering Colleges, 17 Polytechnics, 10 Medical Colleges and 47 Professional Colleges in the region. In this way the educational sector in this section is being grossly neglected. The NEC demands that the State governments of the north-eastern region should take an initiative to improve the conditions of education and employment otherwise it will launch a student agitation for it,” a resolution said.                     (FOC)
