NEWS ROUND-UP-6

—Jagadguru Shankaracharya,
Swami Nishchalananda Saraswati

Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalananda Saraswati of Puri has appealed to every Hindu family to offer at least one rupee and one hour for social causes like education, health, cultural awareness and service activities. He was addressing a congregation on the occasion of birth centenary celebration of Shrimat Gaurdas Brahmachari of Kalidham under Borokona of West Garo Hills in Megahalaya on February 15.

The Shankaracharya advised the devotees to protect water, mother earth, sky, air and fire (pancha mahabhoot) and don’t misuse them in the name of development. He said that due to so-called modernisation we are destroying precious cow progeny. Increasing incidents of insult of the sanyasis and learned monks is painful. We are acquiring modern education but we are losing our Vedic treasure of Sanatan Dharma. Wrong concept of liberalisation is misleading our daughters and sisters. He warned the path of so-called development would lead to destruction. Faulty government policies are responsible for the present messy situation of the country. He urged the people to come forward, unite and work to educate, protect the society to make it healthy and prospers. He advised to inculcate good virtues in the family. Time is the cost of this social transformation.

Prior to it, president of Kalidham Shri Shyamanand Brahmachari expressed gratitude towards His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya. Swamiji is the first Shankaracharya to visit the ashram, which is working since the last eight decades for spiritual and religious awakening in Meghalaya and Assam. This is the bordering area of Bangaladesh which was insurgency infested. This ashram is performing appreciable service to the mankind. Shri Devdas Sarkar, an elderly devotee, narrated the history of the ashram and Shrimad Gaurdas Brahmachariji. Thousands of his followers gathered on this occasion from far flung villages of both the states. A three day yajna was also performed. A souvenir was also released on this occasion.
