Symposium by Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad in Srinagar

“Village-centric development is the remedy to majority of the problems we are facing in villages today. The western model of development ruined our traditional life and it is dire need that we should return to our roots,” said RSS Kshetra Pracharak Shri Shivprakash. He was inaugurating a symposium organised by Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad in Srinagar (Garwal) on December 17. The topic of the symposium was the ‘Role of Agriculture and Horticulture in Promotion of Livelihood’.

Shri Shivprakash said unemployment is not the only reason for migration in hill areas, rather the lack of infrastructure and basic amenities also play key role. He stressed the need to bring a change in the mentality. He said before formulating policies for the State, its three distinct geographical realities—high Himalayan region, central Himalayan region and the Shivalik region—should be kept in mind.

Senior scientist of Govind Ballabh Pant Research Institute Shri RK Maisuri, noted environmentalist Shri Jagat Singh Jangali, Head of Horticulture Department in Hemwati Nandan Central University Prof SS Rawat, Prof NK Todariya and noted economist Dr Bharat Jhunjhunwala also spoke on the occasion. Vice President of the Parishad Shri Prem Barakoti spoke about the activities of the Parishad. Some people who have conducted remarkable experiments in farming were also felicitated at the function, which includes Shri Girish Bhatt, Smt Suman Rawat, Smt Bhawani Rawat and Shri Shivsingh Negi.
