MORE than ten lakh students participated in protest organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) across the country on July 27 against the corrupt UPA government. The ABVP general secretary Umesh Dutt termed it just a beginning. “In coming days the central government will face a massive outrage of students. The Government which is drowned in corruption should step down immediately otherwise the ABVP will start an aggressive agitation with the slogan Bhrashtachariyon Satta Chhodo from August 9,” he said.

The ABVP blamed Prime Minister for the burgeoning corruption. “Instead of taking action against the corrupt people he has always lied to protect the corrupt people like A Raja, Kalmadi and CVC Thomas. On the other hand efforts are being made to torture and defame the people fighting against corruption. For this he has openly misused government machinery and CBI,” Shri Umesh Dutt said.

ABVP termed the UPA government untrustworthy as well as incompetent to curb corruption and to punish the corrupt people. ABVP has propagated a mandate containing 13 points to control corruption. This will guide common man to have corruption-free access to government machinery.

Students in thousands protested on roads in every metro city as well as small district centre. In almost all states there was good participation of students. In Bengaluru, more than 20,000 students formed human chain. The same spirit was seen in Guwahati also where around 1,000 students participated. In Silchar 3,000 students, in Bihar 31,470, Jharkhand 23,231, Karnataka 1,48,400 and in Rajasthan 52,850 students participated in the protest. In Port Blair also students protested on the road. In Delhi, more than 2,000 students agitated and shouted slogans against corruption. There are reports of massive demonstrations from various parts of the country.

Senior ABVP leaders led the agitation in various parts of the country. ABVP general secretary Shri Umesh Dutt was in Shimla while national president Prof Milind Marathe was in Thane. National organising secretary Shri Sunil Ambekar was in Ahmedabad, whereas joint organising secretary and convener of Youth Against Corruption Shri Sunil Bansal was in Delhi. Joint convener of Youth Against Corruption Shri Vishnudutt was in Bhopal and Shri N Ravikumar led the protest in Bengaluru.
