CITIZENS for Harmony, a forum to create awareness among all walks of social life, demanded the enactment of an anti-conversion law in Karnataka. The forum organised a march from Mahatma Gandhi’s Statue at MG Road to Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru on March 25 to press upon this demand. The march was led by noted littérateurs Dr Doddarange Gouda, Dr Chidananda Murthy, Dr Sumatindra Nadig and several religious leaders, thinkers and hundreds of supporters.
Shri Soumyanathanada Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Matt, Shri Shadakshara Muni Swamiji of Adijambava Matt, Hiriyur, Shri Shankarappa Chief of Madiga Dandora Karnataka, Shri Husenappa Gangavathi, general secretary of Madiga Dandora Karnataka, Shri Bharati Reddy, Shri Satoishchandra, Shri Prasanna Deshpande, advocates of High Court and several other leaders of different sects participated in the march. A memorandum was also submitted to Governor of Karnataka. Nearly 300 thinkers, intellectuals, social activists participated in the march organised.
Later, a high level delegation of the forum called on Governor Shri Hansaraj Bharadwaj on March 28 to discuss this issue. The delegation included well known litterateurs Dr Doddarange Gouda, Dr Chidananda Murthy, Dr Sumatindra Nadig, former Chief Justice Dr Rama Jois, thinker Shri PN Benjamin, Dr Sadhu Rangarajan, noted religious leader, Shri M Shankarappa, chief of Madiga Dandora-Karnataka, Samarasata Pramukh of Karnataka Shri Vadiraj and few other selected thinkers, writers, socio-religious leaders. The Governor gave the delegation a very patient hearing and assured to take some concrete steps on the issue.
