REANG janjati people are residing in relief camps of Tripura for nearly one and a half decade. Nearly, 25,000 people live in Naisingpara camp in 3,000 houses. Recently a fire broke out from a kitchen at the southern end of the camp. Due to cyclonic winds within minutes the fire engulfed the whole camp. The inmates of the camp not only lost their belongings but also most important valuable documents issued by the Government of Tripura and Mizoram. About 2,560 houses gutted in the devastating fire. About 15,200 people became homeless. Seventeen Reang refugees charred to death. A total of 41 people are admitted in nearby hospitals and 11 of them are serious.
Kalyan Ashram workers rushed to the affected-villages and provided 10,000 clothes to the children below 10 years of age, 3,000 clothes for men, 4,500 kg of cotton thread for women to prepare their garments, utensils for 2,600 families and bed sheets and mosquito nets (4 sets per family).(FOC)
