IN its ongoing movement against corruption which began on January 6 this year, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a countrywide 24-hour hunger strike on February 17 and 18 to register its protest against the loot of common people by the Congress-led UPA Government. The organisation demanded resignation of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh as he has failed to curb corruption. The strike was organised at 23 prominent places of the country. More than 4,000 activists participated in the strike.
There are reports of organising hunger strikes in New Delhi, Jammu, Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Bhopal and Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Kolkata (West Bengal), Mumbai and Nagpur (Maharashtra), Lucknow and Agra (Uttar Pradesh), Patna (Bihar), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Rohtak (Haryana), Thiruvanantha-puram in Kerala, etc. (FOC)
