THE weaker sections of the society including women, SCs/STs and physically challenged have been exploited for long in our society and they need special care. Apart from this the farmers who are committing suicide due to indebtness should also be given special care, said BJP national president Shri Nitin Gadkari. He was inaugurating the party’s national Human Rights Cell in New Delhi on November 1.

Shri Arun Bhagat, retired IPS, Shri Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, director of Centre for Human Rights Studies and Awareness in Rambhau Mhalagi Prabodhini, Shri Avinashrai Khanna, former member of Human Rights Commission, Punjab, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, spokesperson of BJP, Shri Sudhir Agrwal, convenor of the Human Rights Cell were also present on the occasion.

Referring to the misuse of human rights by certain NGOs for extending a shield to the terrorists and separatist groups, Shri Gadkari said the misuse of such rights must be taken care of by the government at the helm of affairs. “Lakhs of tonnes of foodgrains in godowns have turned into waste and our people are dying of starvation. The government is not distributing the foodgrains among the needy. This is the height of mismanagement. The Human Rights cell of the BJP should raise such issues for the benefit of the common people, and, if necessary coordinate with Human Rights Commission of India, so that the longstanding issues of human rights violation should be resolved,” he added.

Underlying the need of constituting the Human Right Cell national convener Shri Sudhir Agrawal said human rights are the rights relating to life, liberty, quality and dignity of individuals guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the international covenants and enforceable by courts in India. Various social groups, NGO and individuals known as activists are working on the subject to establish dignity of human being. Over the period, it has been noted that some misperceptions have arisen about the movement among people as well activists, may be due to unorganised nature of their working. The BJP has created a special cell in order to streamline the efforts to protect and promote the objects of the movement.

The function was well attended by large gathering of eminent people of all walks of life as professionals, businessman, activists and representative of various social groups.
