ENIOR writer and veteran Sangh worker Dr Sripati Subramanian Shastri passed away in Pune on February 27. He was 75. He was keeping unwell for the last a few years. He held the responsibilities of Pune Mahanagar Sahkaryavah, Prant Karyavah, Kshetra Karyavah, Akhil Bharatiya Sahbauddhik Pramukh, Akhil Bharatiya Sahsampark Pramukh and National Executive Member. He had good command over Marathi, Hindi, Kannada and Tamil.
In his tribute, RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat described Dr Shastri as an original thinker. “Even his short sentence was direction for the workers. He presented the Sangh ideals through his conduct. Following those ideals in personal conduct would be the best tribute to the great soul,” he said.
Dr Shastri was basically from Harihara village under Chitradurga district of Karnataka. A gold medalist from Mysore University in history, he did his Ph. D on ‘History of Constitution of the World’ and joined the Department of History in Pune University. He worked there as professor of history for two decades.
He was an active member of RSS since his student days. Dr Shastri was a well known intellectual, speaker and thinker. His lectures on “Partition of Bharat” and “1857 freedom movement” were highly inspiring. He visited several western countries to spread the message of Hindutva. A bachelor, he dedicated much of his life for the cause of society. His famous book on RSS on Christian Activities was a noted work. He was respected by all spectrum of the society irrespective of political and religious groups.
