LIKE the book on tackling board exams, this book by Dr. Sunil Vaid deals with being successful in entrance exams, which are now MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions). First of all he seeks to distinguish between academic exams and the entrance exams. The former is a test of one’s memory and a bit of application. But the latter is mainly designed to test the application of knowledge as memorising is not the same as being intelligent or knowledgeable. This is the reason the entrance exams have turned MCQs. Only those who have understood and learnt concepts can apply them and answer.
“In MCQ the answer is right in front of your eyes. You mainly have to RECOGNISE it” he says. Vaid suggestes breaking up the question paper according to weightage of marks given to different types of questions and studying them accordingly. While in academic paper “very important questions” marked in books take the bulk of marks, in entrance exams it is the inference questions that carry maximum weight.
Scheduling, notes making, taking the exam in with tension free mind. The reasons for failure are much the same as those mentioned in the points for board exams. A helpful guide for students. This is also a low-priced book.
