Punjab Prant president of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, Sardar Rulda Singh passed away on August 15 in PGI Chandigarh. He had been shot by two unidentified armed persons on July 28 and was admitted to Rajindra Hospital of Patiala. Later he was shifted to PGI Chandigarh where he succumbed to his injuries. Six bullets were fired at him from close distance. After this the attack, a separatist organisation owned the responsibility of the attack by sending e-mails to newspapers offices.

Born in Jassowal village of Patiala district Sardar Rulda Singh was eldest among his seven siblings. He earned good reputation as a businessman and a social worker in the region. He organised many functions in Punjab to promote social harmony. He runs an office in Patiala to help the NRIs. He was also active in many social organisations. In his tribute national president of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, Sardar Gurcharan Singh Gill said the untimely death of Sardar Rulda Singh is a major loss to the entire society. He said the attackers are the enemy of peace and social harmony in Punjab as Rulda Singhji was fighting against heinous crimes like separatism, violence, loot and rape in the guise of Khalistan movement. He said the efforts of social harmony that Rulda Singh started would not stop and his mission would be completed.
