Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) strongly criticised the West Bengal government'sinvitation to a Chinese car company for setting up a car production project in Singur. In a statement issued on April 14, the SJM leader Dr Ashwani Mahajan said the establishment of the Chinese car company project in the country would adversely affect the domestic industries and employment. It is to be noted that a Chinese car company FAW visited the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee recently and the company was offered the same 600 hectares of land, which was forcibly acquired by the government from the farmers for Nano project of Tata Motors.
?The way in which the West Bengal Government acted in the most irresponsible manner and subsequently Tata Motors had to withdrew Nano project from Singur, West Bengal led to a wave of disappointment all around the nation. The way the land of farmers was forcibly acquired, also exposed the anti-farmer attitude of the state government. Later, the chain of events in which the Tata Motors was made to withdraw from Singur further exposed the anti?swadeshi industry attitude of the left front government,? Dr Mahajan said.
He said the West Bengal Government'slove and bias for Chinese car company once again reflected by its invitation to the Chinese company to set up the car production project. ?There is no dearth of car producers and enterprises who are inclined to start car production. In these circumstances invitation to a Chinese company questions the national commitment of the West Bengal Government. It would be important to mention here that China is a nation, which poses a serious threat to the national security. This is also a nation, which unnecessarily opposes India on international and multilateral forums. One should not forget that China is worst affected from world-wide recession, as 40 per cent of its GDP is export dependent. Instead of patronising the Indian company by providing suitable facilities in the state, West Bengal Government'sdecision to give priority to Chinese company is an attempt to help China come out of the recession. India is already suffering from Maoist terrorism. In such circumstances providing a base to a Chinese car company is very worrisome. Chinese car company will not come alone. Many ancillary units would also accompany it,? the statement said.
