The CPI-M state secretary and Politbureau member, Pinarayi Vijayan has the other day shared the dias with the Islamist leader Abdul Nasser Madani who was in the Coimbaotre central jail for nine years as an accused in the Coimbatore bomb blast cases aimed at the BJP leader LK Advani. It may be recalled that while Advani escaped unhurt in the attack several people lost thier lives and even more were maimed for life.

The CPI-M has no qualms whatesover to share the bed with this terror leader for a parliament seat in the state, Ponnani, which was a traditional sitting seat of the Indian Union Muslim League. The CPI and the RSP, traditional partners of the CPI-M has accused the big brother for having diluted the principles of the left and joined hands with a communal political outfit like the PDP. The RSP national general secretary TJ Chandrachoodan and the CPI national general secretary AB Bhardhan has already come out with statements on the newly found love of the CPI-M for the PDP. Abdul Nasser Madani has been more vociferous in belittling the left forces including the CPI and the RSP and has in his speech at Kuttipuram while sharing the dias with Pinarayi Vijayan said that the CPI ministers in the state would not distance from the PDP as they had openly admitted on the PDP'ssupport for their electoral success.

With the CPI-M practicing the politics of hate with Madani at toe and with the traditional ally like the Janatadal(S) sulking after being rejected of their sitting Lok Sabha seat at Kozhikode, the CPI-M leadership is of the opinion to join hands with all the communal forces and to dismantle the present left front. There are also reports that the CPI-M is seriously considering a loose electoral arrangment with the Jamaet Islami. However sources told this reporter that the Islamist organisation was not too keen to share the space with Madani as it felt that the importance would be shared or rather it may become a junior partner given the charisma of Abdul Nasser Madani.

The CPI-M and the left front is facing a tought electoral battle following the anti-incumbency factor of the Achuthanandan government, the ongoing power struggle within the CPI-M with the Chief Minister on the one side and the party secretary on the other side, the multi crore SNC Lavelin corruption charges against the CPI-M state secretary, the fight between the CPI-M and the CPI, the grouse of small constituent parties like the RSP and the Janata Dal for having seized their seats. The CPI-M which is the big brother of the left front wants to some how win some seats and is aiming for electoral arrangments with even Abdul Nasser Madani brushing aside the saner advises from old timers and even the constituents of the left front. The CPI-M Malappuram district commitee has even brought out a report citing that the CPI does have only 6500 votes in the Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency while the PDP has more than 60000 votes.

The left front is rocking following the CPI-M decision and the big question that arises is whether the CPI-M has turned into a poltical party with the aim of only electoral success.

There were already media reports on the close association Madani and his wife Sufiya Madani had with the four youths from Kerala who were shot dead in Kashmir while trying to cross the border to Pakistan.

Sathar alias Sainuddin who is considered by the police and the intelligence as one of the main contacts of the LeT in South India and who was instrumental in brain washing the youths from Kerala to participate in Jehad was also reported as closely linked to Madani and his family. This also points the fingure of allegation towards Abdul Nasser Madani. The CPI-M leaders however rubbishes the claims and the state home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan contradicted the open press statement of the Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan that there would be investigation against Madani. The home minister said that the cases against Madani were all closed and added that the investigation against Madani was a closed chapter. The CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the meanwhile added that Madani is a changed person now and that the CPI-M is having truck with Madani who is fighting for democracy and social well being.
