Punjab unit of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas organised a seminar in Chandigarh on ?Challenges in present education and its alternate? on December 13. National co-convener of the Nyas Shri Atul Kothari and Shri Pran Nath Pankaj were the main speakers while former DGP of Punjab Shri P.C. Dogra presided over the function.

Shri Kothari said the biggest drawback with the present education system is that it lacks Indian traditional and moral values. ?The present history books published by the NCERT contain the distorted facts while the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) used the books filled with contemptuous language for Hindu gods and goddesses,? he said.

He gave numerous examples of distorted facts being taught to the students. The Government is hell bent upon to implement the useless sex education, he said.

He further said the Nyas want to mould the existing education system to benefit the society and the nation. The country needs overhauling of the present education after discussions to achieve a definite goal. This work was started immediately after the Independence but could not be completed due to one or the other reasons. Various Governments constituted Commissions like Kothari Commission, Radhakrishnan Commission, Mudliar Commission and formulated the Education Policy in 1986 but that could not be executed because of lack of political willpower.

He further said there should be public awareness for uplift and utility of the education. For this all the intellectuals, youth, educational institutions, NGOs and governments must come together and make education a top priority for the country through which Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam'sdream of developed Bharat could be achieved by the year 2020.

Shri P.C. Dogra said one of the biggest reasons in not tackling the terrorism is the present education which does not elaborates the cause of terrorism. Shri Madan Mohan Vyas, president of Punjab unit of the Nyas, said this type of seminars would be organised in every major city of Punjab in coming days.
