The BJP chief Shri Rajnath Singh addressing election meetings in various assembly constituencies of Rajasthan, said that the UPA government should not take lightly the anger of the common masses by taking casual steps on the Mumbai terror attack. In fact, the country'sprestige is at stake. Shri Singh warned that the Congress-led government at the Centre should learn from the past. He reminded that during the 1962 war with China, the then Defence Minister Krishna Menon had resigned for not following a proper step, and because of this serious blunder, the Congress had to pay for it in the next General Election in 1967. At that time the responsibility was fixed on Krishna Menon. So as a principal Opposition Party, the BJP is frequently exerting pressure on the UPA and demanding to enact a stringent law to tackle the menace of terrorism and strengthen the related security agencies. Shri Singh also demanded to set up fast track courts and strengthen intelligence agencies and also to prepare a comprehensive action plan to fight the dreaded terrorism.
Shri Singh further said that this is for the first time that the UPA government called an all-party meeting on the issue of tacking terrorism, otherwise it has never taken national consensus on this serious issue. Therefore, the UPA government has proved a complete failure for which the countrymen have to face the dire consequences.
The star campaigners of BJP Shri LK Advani, Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Venkaiah Naidu also addressed rallies at different places in Rajasthan and each of the rally was attended by more than 30 thousand people. Smt Vasundhara Raje spoke in her rallies about the welfare schemes for farmers as she knows the ground reality very well, whereas the UPA chairperson cannot deliver a speech unless it is written on a paper.
?It is high time the UPA government took stern action against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, which is engaged in waging a war against our nation. In fact, the UPA government should seriously think to dismantle the terrorist training camps operating along the Pak border by taking into confidence the international community, in a time-bound period. The international community has already offered assistance in this endeavour, so India should chalk out its action plan and as a principal Opposition party the BJP is frequently building pressure on the UPA to handle the issue in a professional manner. The BJP does not want to do politics on this serious issue.? This was stressed by BJP national president Shri Rajnath Singh while addressing election meetings in Kekri Assembly of Ajmir district, Mohua Assembly of Dousa district and Sahapur Assembly of Jaipur district in Rajasthan on December 2, 2008.
Shri Singh said because of this cowardly act of terror in Mumbai, the UPA is under tremendous public pressure to deliver. It is evident from the ?resigns? of some top-level political leadership. But Indian public is not satisfied with the ?resigns?. Some ruling party leaders? lack-luster response towards the Mumbai attack has further angered the public. Shri Rajnath Singh said: ?Public want some concrete action that can put an end to the regular terrorist attacks.
Shri Rajnath Singh further said that if Pakistan is ready to cooperate in dismantling the terror infrastructure in Pakistan, then it is definitely a welcome step. Then our government with the help of Pakistan should conduct a joint operation to dismantle the terrorist training centres operating in Pakistani territory. If Pakistan does not agree to join in this operation, then the UPA government should be open with all types of alternatives to give a befitting reply to Pakistan, he added.
Shri Singh put the ruling UPA on the mat over the ?civil war-like situation? in the government and cautioned it against letting its last 100 days in office turn into a nightmare for the entire nation. The nation has seen politicians getting into blame game. But it is perhaps for the first time that intelligence, security and other agencies of the country are squabbling to fix the responsibility on others over the Mumbai terror strike. This is evident from media reports that when in an attempt to deflect the criticism of failure to act on intelligence information regarding the Mumbai terror attack, the Indian Navy has reportedly claimed that it had no prior specific information and added that the fault for the disaster lay with the coastal security and intelligence-sharing mechanism.
Reacting to the reshuffle drama of the UPA government after the Mumbai terror attack, the BJP chief said that it is the internal affair of the UPA government. We have nothing to say on this. But this resignation drama of the Minister at the Centre and at Maharashtra is no earnest step towards tackling the serious issue of terrorism. It is only an eyewash as the UPA government did nothing to handle the serious issue of terrorism, which caused serial blasts across the country and thousands died in them. In fact, over the last four years the government did not dealt with the issue of terrorism with an iron hand, Shri Singh added.
