Hindus and Muslims jointly urged the Central Government to declare the cow as National Animal and constitute a separate ministry for her protection. They had assembled at a function organised by Akhil Bharatiya Sarvadaliya Goraksha Mahabhiyan and Rashtriya Godhan Mahasangh at Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi on November 7. Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, Hindu Manch and Muslim Rashtriya Manch also extended support the function that was organised to pay tribute to the martyrs of November 7, 1966 incident when gobhaktas were shot died for demanding ban on cow slaughter. RSS Delhi Prant Sanghachalak Shri Ramesh Prakash, Mayor of Delhi Smt Arti Mehra, former Haj Committee chairman Tanvir Ahmed, Mayor of Ghaziabad, Damyanti Goel and granddaughter of Veer Savarkar Himani Savarkar were also present.

Addressing the gathering RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri KS Sudarshan compared the chemical fertilizers with liquor that makes a person addict. He said the chemical fertilizers first make our soil addict and then ruins its fertility resulting in low production. He said the chemical fertilizers have made the crops poisonous. ?The only solution to this problem is organic fertilizer, cow dung and cow urine,? he said highlighting the benefits of the cow.

VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia described the cow as symbol of the country'sculture and said by slaughtering the cow the very culture of this land is being attacked. He said thousands of cows are being slaughtered in the country everyday. He appealed to the people to raise their voice democratically against the government.

National president of Rashtriya Godhan Mahasangh Swami Jnananand Maharaj demanded to declare the cow as national animal and a separate ministry for the protection of the cows. Former MP and central secretary of VHP Sardar Prem Singh ?Sher? also spoke on the occasion. Secretary of All India Imam Organisation Umer Ahmed Iliyasi said the time has come when the cow should be declared a national animal. He pointed out that a memorandum containing signatures of five lakh Muslims for the constitution of Cow Protection Ministry would soon be presented to Vice President Dr Hamid Ansari. He also stated that Maulanas have issued a fatwa directing the Muslims not to perform qurbani of the cow on Bakrid. (FOC)
