Vikrami Samvat 2065, the Hindu New Year, was celebrated on April 7 across the country. Different people and organisations organised various types of functions to welcome the New Year. Delhi unit of Sanskar Bharati lighted 2065 lamps at the banks of the Yamuna in New Delhi to welcome the rising sun of the New Year. Shri Kapil Sharma, noted Bharat Natyam dancer, performed the Ardhnarishwar dance while Shri Rajesh Jain, noted poet, exhorted the people to celebrate their real New Year.

Haryana Maitri Sangh organised a cultural programme in which Sharma sisters-Madhuri, Kirti and Vidhi-recited various bhajans in New Delhi. Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra and former MLA Shri Nandkishore Garg were also present on the occasion. Hindu Parva Samaroh Samiti organised a Sant Samagam in which Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vishnudevananda Giri Maharaj was among the prominent saints present on the occasion. ?Yuva Bharat? conducted a vehicle rally in Delhi. There were over 40 vehicles in the Yatra. Shri Ravi Bansal, Prant Prachar Pramukh of RSS also participated in the Yatra. Nav Samvat Ayojan Samiti organised a Bhajan Sandhya in Chandani Chowk in which local MCD councilor Shri Suman Gupta and BJP leader Shri Dharmavir Sharma were among the prominent people present on the occasion.

Similar function was held in Greater Noida on April 5 to apprise the people of the significance of Hindu New Year. Speaking at the function as distinguished guest Pt. Jaikumar Sharma, popularly known as Jalwale Guruji, said there are many things new at the time when Hindu New Year is celebrated. Whereas there is nothing new on January 1 when the English New Year is celebrated. He appealed to the Hindus to follow their own ideals, which are more scientific than the western. Former Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayananda was also present. Nav Varsha Chetana Samiti, Kashi Prant, distributed 10,000 pamphlets, put 1000 banners and pasted 5000 posters in the city. The Mahanagar unit of RSS took out a pathsanchalan in the city in which large number of uniformed swayamsevaks participated.
