THE suspicious killing of Jammu and Kashmir police Special Operation Group (SOG) DSP, Operation Jammu, Shailey Singh in a combat operation at Udrana in Bhaderwah town of Doda district has once again brought forth the ugly terrorist-state government officials? nexus in Jammu and Kashmir.

The young officer, known as encounter specialist, was sent on a special mission to Bhaderwah and while he was in process of the encounter, he was selectively killed while none of the 16 cops assisting him in the operation sustained slightest of injury.

The three terrorists, who included the divisional commander of Laskher-e-Toiba Abu Umar managed to escape after killing the officer.

The terrorists had been staying in the houses of state health department employee, Shabir Ahmed and state forest department employee Shakur Ahmed for the past few days. It was in the house of Shabir Ahmed that the police officer was killed.

There have been many incidents in which the state police or other employees have helped terrorists either in passing information, weapons, money or providing them safe passage at homes or otherwise. It must be mentioned that this year, 18 state government employees have been ousted from their jobs for having links with terrorists and over 200 are under scrutiny.

Some of the Jammu police officers have also admitted in private that the brave officer was trapped with the help of insiders, who were passing information about his movements to terrorists otherwise it was not that simple to kill the officer without any resistance.

Meanwhile, smelling a foul play in the killing, BJP state unit president Ashok Khajuria has demanded a thorough probe into the incident to expose the ?black sheep? in the police department.

There has been strong resentment in Jammu against the indiscriminate approach of state government towards the police personnel from Jammu region. It has always been that Jammu officers and personnel are sent on difficult tasks in Kashmir while the Kashmir-based officers enjoy plump peace postings. At least eight Jammu DSPs have lost their lives in terrorist operations while none such cases are reported from Kashmir.

The family of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailey Singh was looking forward to his wedding later this month. The 30-year-old police officer was the second victim in the family to terrorist bullets. His father Uday Bir Singh, also a police officer, was killed at the hands of Punjab terrorists in Nanak Nagar area of Jammu city in 1993.
