Hindus of Gunthaput village under Koraput district of Orissa have started a revolution to free their village school building and land from the illegal encroachment of Christian pastors. As the police and local administration allegedly joins hand with missionary goons, nine villagers are arrested and the police bites 40 up mercilessly.
Sri Parameswar Alanga, the villager and one eye witness of this brutal incident, told that in the year 1925 a primary school was constructed in the village which came to use in 1927. At that time there was not a single Christian family in the village. As the vanvasis were in neglected conditions in this underdeveloped tribe dominated district, they took active part in the school management. But in the course of time this only school of that localities was closed down. But the Christian pastors, took possession over that school'sbuilding and landed properties for the purpose of construction of a church. It was vehemently protested by the local vanvasi Hindus and the matter went to the court of civil Judge Koraput vide case No. 14/07 and I.A. 12/07. During the pendency of this civil suit, the Christian missionaries allegedly tried to take possession over the school land along with a major portion of land from the public road, started to fence it. And it created much reactions among the Hindus. On March 28, 2007, the situation took an ugly turn when the local Christian station House officer of Semiliguda police station and the circle Inspector of Nabapur (who is also Christian) arrested the local Hindu leaders and forwarded them to the Judicial custody. This partial and intentional act of the police was answered through a mass protest on April 3, 2007, in which near about 8,000 Hindus took part and staged a peaceful demonstration.
