The Poorvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh burnt for more than one week. The situation in over 20 districts including Gorakhpur is still tense. The violence erupted after the killing of a youth, Rajkumar Agrahari, in Gorakhpur by Muslim goons during the Moharram procession. The only ?crime? of the youth was that he had tried to save a 17-year-Hindu girl from being molested by some Muslim youth. When Hindu organisations including BJP MP Yogi Adityanath protested against the killing of the youth, the state government instead of arresting the criminals put the Hindu leaders behind the bars.
What happened is not new. It is part of a larger conspiracy hatched by Islamic terrorists active in the region. The fact is that the Poorvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which once used to be represented by first President Dr Rajendra Prasad (Chhapra) and first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru (Phoolpur), is in the grip of the hardcore Islamic criminals. The Hindu leaders, whichever party they belong to, are being eliminated systematically. And since the day Mulayam Singh Yadav assumed power in UP, the Islamic communalism has taken a fatal turn. So far, more than three dozen Hindu political leaders have been eliminated by the gang of notorious Muslim gangsters allegedly being patronised by Ateeq Ahmed in Allahabad, Mukhtar and Afzal Ansari in Ghazipur-Mau and Mohd. Shahabuddin in Siwan. Ateeq and Afzal are Samajwadi Party MPs while Shahabuddin is an RJD MP. Mukhtar Ansari is an independent MLA from Mau. Though Mukhtar and Shahabuddin are in jail for months, they are as free there as outside.
According to political observers, earlier when Mulayam Singh came to power in UP (1989 and 1993), he allotted districts to some subedar-type political leaders like Ganji Prasad Yadav in Benaras-Chandauli, Ramkaran Yadav in Ghazipur, Ishdutt and Balram Yadav in Azamgarh, Parasnath in Jaunpur, etc. But these leaders never tortured the common man. This time he has allotted districts to hardcore Muslim criminals. Three commissionaries of eastern UP?Allahabad, Benaras, Azamgarh?comprising a dozen of districts are fully in the grip of these criminals who also have links with the criminals of Lucknow, Faizabad and Sultanpur regions.
?I suspect that Mukhtar Ansari is an active member of Dawood gang and is directly connected with the ISI. He enjoys full patronage of Mulayam Singh government. The gang of Ateeq Ahmed (Allahabad) Shahabuddin (Siwan) and the Ansari brothers in Ghazipur have developed a huge political empire from Siwan to Allahabad and also have grabbed the economic resources worth more than Rs 1,000 crore,? alleges Shri Manoj Sinha, former MP from Ghazipur.
Shri D.P. Ojha, former DGP of Bihar, had also reportedly alleged that Mohammad Shahabuddin is associated with the ISI and has links with international criminals. When the goons of Shahabuddin commit any crime in Bihar they take refuge under Mukhtar Ansari in Ghazipur and vice versa. The police know it and the IB too has informed the central government but all are sleeping.
Mukhtar changes his strategy as per the government in power. He was with the BSP when Mayawati was CM and his elder brother Afzal Ansari (SP MP) too had stopped using the SP flag on his car. But when Mulayam Singh came to power, both became active in SP. Right from the Lok Sabha elections the duo got their men (mostly tainted officers) posted on the key posts in their areas, which resulted in large-scale violence during 2004 elections. ?With the beginning of polling in Mohamadabad, Mukhtar Ansari and his gangsters killed a BJP activist, Jhnaku Ginhar, at a polling booth itself at 7.15 am and that too in the presence of DM and SP. Then they looted the booths in the presence of the administration. Ansari'scousin brother Tannu, killed my party'sactivist belonging to my village Yusufpur. The village pradhan of Parsa village, Tuntun Pahalwan, was also killed before the polling. After the Lok Sabha elections, the killing of innocent people became a daily routine. The BJP activists were killed selectively. A total of 22 BJP activists have been killed so far in Ghazipur alone,? added Shri Sinha.
The nephew of Devendra Rai Pradhan, Bittu Pathak, Avinash Singh, Rajesh Rai and Rajendra Rai were killed in Ghazipur area. The nationalist organisations protested strongly against it. BJP leaders Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri Vinay Katiyar, Shri Keshrinath Tripathi and Shri Kalraj Mishra participated in the massive demonstration held on July 26, 2005. The BJP MLAs of the region then met the Governor and requested him to order a CBI inquiry into the killings. In that memorandum the MLAs had feared that more BJP workers like Rajesh Rai, Krishnananda Rai, Shyama Shankar Rai, Dineshwar, etc. might be killed in coming days. Later, the fear proved true and Rajesh Rai was killed in broad daylight. The BJP MLA Shri Krishnananda Rai and senior workers like Shyama Shankar Rai, Ramesh Rai and seven others were also killed on November 29. ?The whole police administration was already aware of this incident. The criminals were hiding in the houses of Afzal and Mukhtar Ansari. The STF had informed the state government about the presence of criminals there and about the possible threat to Hindu leaders. Krishnananda Rai too had informed the Chief Minister about the threat to his life but he was not given the security by the government,? alleges Shri Sinha.
The killing of Krishnananda Rai invited a massive public ire in the region. Senior BJP leaders Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, Shri L.K. Advani, Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri Kalyan Singh, etc. demanded a CBI inquiry into the killing, which the government rejected. There are more than 22 criminal cases against Mukhtar Ansari. People fear to report any complain against him. But in the case of Rajendra Rai and Krishnananda Rai named FIRs were registered against Mukhtar and Afzal Ansari. When deputed to investigate the case, Bhajani Ram Meena, police superintendent posted in the district, left the case in middle alleging undue high pressure and he requested to transfer the case to the CBCID. After six months the CBCID too surrendered the case complaining pressure and recommended transfer of the case to the local police.
Finding no remedy, the wife of Krishnananda Rai filed a writ in Allahabad High Court demanding a CBI inquiry into the killing of her husband. The Court after hearing the arguments in May 2006 ordered a CBI inquiry. But the Mulayam Singh government went to the Supreme Court against the High Court order. The Supreme Court in July last year wondered over the action of the UP government and rejected the SLP of the state government. Now the CBI inquiry has begun in this case. Four accused of the case, Mukhtar, Afzal, Jiva and Aijaj, are in the Ghazipur jail. They tried to seek bail from the High Court but failed.
The game Ansari brothers played in Mau in 2005 wherein they, despite their clear involvement in the riots, got scot-freed as all the witnesses turned hostile, was quite evident. People of Mau had seen Mukhtar Ansari terrorising them with sophisticated weapons in an open jeep. Despite that the accused got scot-free. The same game appears to be repeated in Ghazipur. Now the accused have stopped seeking bail from the court and have started facing trial. The High Court has ordered trial of the case in CBI court, Lucknow. But despite the HC order the trial has begun in Ghazipur. Though, a copy of the Court order has been submitted in the Ghazipur court, the hearing in the case still continues. Now a writ has also been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction for trial in CBI court, Lucknow.
Ghazipur, Balia, Mau, Varanasi, Azamgarh and Chandauli are the districts that are completely in the grip of Ansari brothers. If they come out from the jail before the elections, the experts feel that it could be the bloodiest election in the state. The CBI has directed the state government to provide adequate security to about 20 people of Ghazipur but the government has not paid attention to it waiting some more Hindu leaders to be killed.
The Allahabad city is in the grip of Ateeq Ahmed. The BSP MLA Raju Pal was killed in broad daylight. His only crime was that he had defeated Ateeq'sbrother in assembly polls. After the death of Raju Pal, Ateeq'sbrother has again become an MLA. Krishnananda Rai was also killed in the similar way. He had defeated Afzal Ansari who had been winning for the last 18 years. These people follow the same strategy. In Siwan, Shahabuddin is involved in over 51 criminal cases, which include the cases of murder and sedition. He is at present lodged in Bhagalpur Central Jail.
