The 11th national convention of Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad was held in Pune from December 24 to 26, 2006. More than 900 advocates from various parts of the country participated in the three-day convention. The theme of the convention was ?Challenges to National Integrity and the Role of Legal Fraternity?.
Inaugurating the convention former Supreme Court judge and chairman of Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission, Justice (retd) D.M. Dharmadhikari said the legal fraternity has an important role to play in the country. ?We should work for national unity irrespective of our religion, caste, language and region. The appeal for conversion from one religion to another is against the secular spirit of the Constitution and its principles,? he said adding that the constitution of states on the basis of language has not been healthy for the national unity. He stressed the need for preserving cultural traditions of the country.
Lt. Gen. (retd) Shetkar speaking on the problem of internal security said the feeling of partition principally begins from our families when we start worrying for our own security and not for the security of the country. He said without strengthening the internal security we cannot face the external threats. He said nobody is terrorist by birth we need to find the roots of terrorism. Apart from removing the social discrepancies we need to enact strong laws. Justice (retd) Parvatrao also spoke at the convention, and discussed at length the issues of terrorism, Naxalism, religious fundamentalism, etc.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Shri Madan Das, Sahsarkaryvah of RSS, said the life of Shri Guruji was completely dedicated to the nation and he presented an ideal before the whole country. Justice (retd.) Parvatrao was elected president of the Adhivakta Parishad for next three years. Shri Bhupender Yadav was elected general secretary and Shri Balram Sangal was elected treasure. (FOC)
