Myth of Muslim backwardness

Since the UPA government, a combination of Congress, Muslim League and communist parties, came to rule at the Centre in 2004, it has been pursuing Muslim cause with a vengeance. Here are a few instances: (a) Reintroduction of anti-Hindu and pro-Muslim entries in the NCERT textbooks which had been removed by the earlier NDA government: (b) Giving clean chit to Muslim madrasas, promoting madrasa education, and augmenting their government aid; (c) Defending Muslim personal law and Shariat courts; (d) Insistence on retaining Muslim character of the AMU at State cost even after the Allahabad High Court judgment against it; (e) Harping on Muslim backwardness, (a self-imposed universal phenomenon), and appointing Sachar Committee to find and recommend grounds for giving still more concessions and grants to Muslims; (f) Creation of a separate Ministry for Muslims in the name of minorities; (g) Creating a separate Muslim finance corporation; and (h) Earmarking 15 per cent of the central budget to be used exclusively on Muslims.

During the two years? regime of UPA, anti-Hindu activities have attained new heights. The Hindustan Times, perhaps the largest selling newspaper and receiving maximum government patronage, has made it its mission to scandalise Hindus and Hinduism and propagate eating of cow-meat, knowing well that it is anathema to Hindu religionists. In its front-page story of November 15, 2006, in praise of perverted painter MF Husain, it surreptitiously recommended ?Bharat-Ratna? for him, noting also that about 600 cases stand against him for his obnoxious nude paintings of Hindu gods and goddesses. The UPA government has rewarded the paper by nominating its managing director, Smt. Shobhna Bhartiya to Rajya Sabha. Unofficially leaked Sachar Committee'sreport in favour of Muslims is another step towards implementation of the hidden agenda of the Congress that had been laid by Mahatma Gandhi in conjunction with Maulana Azad and Jawaharlal Nehru. In fact, it was the real, but undisclosed, reason for Gandhiji to side-track Sardar Patel and install Jawaharlal Nehru through backdoor as Prime Minister of India in 1946-47.

In my 1994 book, Hindu Culture During and After Muslim Rule, I wrote: ?It seems that there had been a tacit agreement between the modernist successors of the British Raj and the Pan-Islamic leaders of Muslims to revert back to their position obtaining during the Mughal period. There is nothing else to explain Jawaharlal Nehru'sfancy for emperor Akbar. But, that would not satisfy the Muslim leaders whose ideal is Aurangzeb, not Akbar. They have, through their bargaining power, brought India nearer to the reign of Aurangzeb. It was not a slip of tongue of the late Rajiv Gandhi when he said from the ramparts of Red Fort on August 15, 1988: ?Our endeavour should be to take the country to heights to which it belonged about 250-300 years ago, before people from different corners of the world set out to discover India?? The period 250-300 years ago was that of Aurangzeb. Supporters of a special treatment and various reservations for the Muslims must recall that seeds of India'sPartition were laid in 1909 by giving them separate electorate and reservation of seats in the Central and State Assemblies.

The memorandum presented by Sir Agha Khan led Muslim delegation to Lord Minto on October 1, 1906 at Shimla, as a prelude to formation of the Muslim League, included the following demands: 1. Adequate representation in all services ? civil and military and in the High Courts: the appointment to higher posts without competitive examinations. 2. Guarantee of a number of seats in the councils of the municipal and district boards and the syndicates and senates of universities. 3. Election of Muslims to the Provincial Councils through separate Muslim electorates, and in numbers not in proportion to their population, but in accordance to their political importance. 4. Election of Muslims to the Imperial Legislative Council through a separate electorate in sufficient number so that the Muslims may not be an ineffective minority. 5. Aid in founding a Muslim University which would be a centre of Muslim religious and intellectual life.

Significantly, the memorandum had been drafted by an Englishman, Mr Archbold, then principal of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College, Aligarh, (later Aligarh Muslim University). This job is now being done by Rajendra Sachar and Arjun Singh like Hindus. Thus, every Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist or Parsi, who cries for removal of Muslim poverty and backwardness through special financial grants and job reservations is knowingly or unknowingly working for converting India into an Islamic state or further Partition.

It needs to be well understood that Muslim leaders? first priority is getting political power. Like communists, they believe that economic power follows political power and political power comes through muscle and gun power. So, no amount of pacification, no amount of reservations and no amount of economic doles will satisfy the Muslim appetite. They will go on complaining of discrimination and will fight for political power. They successfully played this strategy from 1880s to 1947 and got Pakistan. In the meantime, they took everything that was offered by way of buying peace and continued to fight for more and more till they got India partitioned. They have been replaying that strategy with equal success in truncated Hindu India, right from 1950s. Before Partition, they had the British as their God-father. Now, they have the Congress, joined with its various splinter groups, and the communist parties. In this fight for Islamic supremacy, Hindu nationalists are yet to decide their course of action.
