“Following the way that Shri Guruji had suggested to bring social harmony in the society while breaking the barriers of caste, section, state or religion is the need of the hour. The views of Shri Guruji on social harmony were beyond any prejudice and he would say that the person who hates any caste or religion could not be a Hindu,? said Shri Madan Das, Sahsarkaryavah of RSS. He was speaking at a seminar organised by Hindusthan Samachar on Social Harmony and Media, in Mumbai recently.

About the responsibility of journalists, he said Shri Guruji used to say that the truth must come out and the prime responsibility is to bring all sections of the society together. ?Your power plays an important part in national reconstruction. Therefore, purity of duty is must. Journalists should refrain from publicity of baseless, misleading and divisive matters. The interest of society and nation and the prestige of journalism lie in it. The work which is done just for gaining publicity converts the qualities into evils,? he said while quoting Shri Guruji.

Shri Bharat Kumar Raut, editor of Maharashtra Times, said the role of readers has become very important. He said remaining silent over the important issues is also a crime. Shri Nandkishore Nautiyal, senior journalist and former editor, Blitz who has also been chairman of the Badrinath, Kedarnath Temple Trust, said every flower, howsoever beautiful it may be, cannot be part of the bouquet. Therefore, discharging responsibility in the interest of society is real journalism. He said the media today is following the culture of translation. Hindi is written in roman script. Citing the page-three culture he said the media too is falling prey to the alien culture.

Presiding over the function, Prof Aniruddha Deshpande said the two-third of newspapers are influenced by politics, and caste has now started dominating the politics and media is also promoting it. During the election, the caste equations are prominently displayed. Such policies are hindrance in the way of social harmony, he added.
