The pre-Independence Day nation-wide alertness by the police and security forces yielded rich dividends for the people of Kerala with the Special Branch arresting 18 operatives of the banned SIMI at Binanipuram, near Aluva in Kochi-district of Kerala. Based on intelligence inputs of regrouping of SIMI, police kept watch at different communally sensitive points in Kerala. Intelligence wing of police in Kochi, never knew they were in for a gold mine, when they rounded up 18 persons who had come to attend a seminar on 60 years of Independence. Interrogation of the persons and examination of the documents, books in their pocession clearly established their ties with the banned SIMI and their recent contacts with the Kashmir and PAK based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

They had in their pocession several books and articles which had seditious and anti-national remarks pertaining to India, maps of India printed in Pak without mention of Kashmir and banned book ?Mass Resistance in Kashmir? printed and published by the Institute of Policy Research, Islamabad. This book describes India as an occupying force in Kashmir and worships the terrorists as nationalists and resistance heroes.

The leader of the group is Zakkar Azzim, who is working as an Asst professor in a Muslim Management Engineering College in Aluva. He belongs to Tamil Nadu and has been a SIMI activist since his college days. He was arrested in Tamil Nadu during ban SIMI and was lodged in prison. He had shifted his base to Kerala later. The main kingpins of the undercover groupings are Shaduli, Rafeek, Shamees, Nizamudeen and Ansar Moulavi. Rest of the persons, police say, had come without knowledge of the actual purpose of the meet and they let them off after detailed interrogation. Zakkir Azzim was handed over to Tamil Nadu police and the five were remanded to police custody.

Interrogation by Central Intelligence Bureau (IB), RAW and ADGP (Kerala Intelligence) revealed that the SIMI was operating in Kerala under 12 different names including NDF and Jamaat-e-Islami. Also was revealed the plan to whip up anti-Hindu and anti-army sentiments among Muslims by projecting Babri demolition, Gujarat riots, excesses of security force in Kashmir etc. Seized documents also revealed plan to split Hindu society by turning OBCs, SCs, STs and Vanavasis against upper castes and Vice-versa. Also was revealed their new found relation with the Islamic terrorism groups in the north, Kashmir and most dangerous, the LeT.

Police raided the ?Hira Centre?, headquarter of Jamaat-e-Islami, in Kozhikode from where the banned book, ?Mass Resistance in Kashmir? was issued. Interestingly the library records show that the book was being issued to SIMI! Police also raided several pro-Islamic terrorism book stalls in Kozhikode and Kochi and seized several books, magazines and CDs etc with anti national and seditious references.

The state President of the BJYM Surendran has called for handing over this case to the central agencies for effective investigation. He said the CPM which came to power getting support of pro-Islamic terrorist out fits like Jamaat-e-Islami, Kanthapuram, PDP and twelve under cover organisations of SIMI, will not proceed against these anti-nationals for fear of loss of vote banks. He called for action against the police officials who let 13 SIMI activists go scot-free. He said investigations against several Islamic terrorist acts like Tamil Nadu bus-burnings, Beypore boat blast, bomb haul and blasts in Kozhikode, Trissur etc are trailing at Snail'space, due to CPM'sclose truck with the Islamic extremists. He said such is the clout of the Islamic terrorists in the media that they are operating three newspapers and twelve periodicals in Kerala.

Meanwhile the IB and RAW have taken strong note of the parade conducted by the Islamic terrorist NDF in four major centres of Kerala including Kasargod and Alapuzha on Independence day. They question, how the state government could give permission for such a rally especially in the light of nation-wide alert against terror strikes? Probably the IB and RAW officials do not know that vote-banks are more important than Islamic terrorism strikes and we cannot be surprised if Chief Minister Atchudanandan or Pinarayi Vijayan participate in the next parade of NDF.
