Training camp for village temple priests

The Tamil Nadu unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) organised two training camps, one for the Bajrang Dal cadre and the second for village temple priests. AS many as 130 youth participated at the seven-day Bajrang Dal camp held from May 16 to 22. It was inaugurated by Dr Subramaniam, former Principal, Vivekananda College, Tiruvedagam near Madurai. The training camp for village temple priests was organised at Narayani Peetam near Vellore. It was held from May 4 to 18. Inaugurating the camp, Swami Narayani Amma praised the VHP for uniting and imparting training to the village priests. It was for the fifth time that the training camp was organised at Narayani Peetham.
Head of the Koonam Patti Math expounded on the importance of Hindu scriptures and devoting oneself to serving in temples. A special feature of the camp was that the participants included 12 graduates and 60 undergraduates out of the total 120 priests. For full 15 days, the priests had been imparted in-depth training by eminent Agama Pandits on ways of worship, rituals and rites. Daily discourses were given by scholars on the state of the nation and the Hindu society.
Dr Subramaniam Swamy, who participated in the inauguration ceremony, lauded the efforts of VHP for bringing about the Hindu unity and for the scheme of training priests. He said the priests were persons who spread and protected dharma at village level. Shri A.K. Soundararajan, convenor of the Poojaris Trust, was also present at the camp.
