Astanga Yoga Explained by Kedarnath Supkar, author-publisher, Rs 20.00
This is a small booklet by an adhyatma yogi by birth. In this form of yoga, only yama, nishkama karma-yoga (selfless service), bhakti-yoga (emotional love and devotion) and sanyam (dhyana and samadhi for complete control) are needed. Astanga yoga'spratyahar and pranayam refer automatically to, while niyama silently follow, yama. Whatever the author has attained out of his prajna (knowledge attained through personal acts), he has explained. As he is not a jnani, i.e. not used to giving long discourses or commentaries, his work is not flowery; it is to the point and makes his faithful followers achieve fruitful results.
The author subscribes to supkar astrology based on the fundamental principles of Ayurveda which is a popular system of medicine and conveys the truth based on Sanatan Dharma of India since more that 20,000 years. It also explains in a lucid language the yoga-sutras composed by Patanjali about 5,000 years ago.
