Shishu Siksha Samiti, Assam, affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Bharati, has been celebrating its silver jubilee year. Constituted in 1979, the Samiti runs a total of 810 schools, from the primary to secondary levels, in different states of the north-east region. Besides 450 primary and secondary schools, the Samiti runs 380 single-teacher schools, including 270 in Karbi Anglong district and 90 in terrorism-affected Kokrajhar district. The Samiti organised a three-day training camp for principals of these schools so as to accelerate educational activities during the silver jubilee year. Addressing the convention, Shri Vijay Ganesh Kulkarni said Vidya Bharati was the largest non-governmental educational institution in the world that runs over 20,000 schools from primary to college level. Over 26 lakh students receive education from 1.20 lakh teachers in these schools. The function was presided over by Shri Atulanand Goswami, president of Shishu Sikhsha Samiti. Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were Dr Nirmal Kumar Chaudhari, former Vice Chancellor of Guwahati University, Shri Rohini Kumar Barua, former Secretary, Education, Shri Prakash Chandra, joint organising secretary of Vidya Bharati and Shri Vimal Nath Chaudhari, president of the north-east Samiti.
