The Indian comrades would not leave any opportunity to let down the nation. And they did it again at the first council meeting of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), located in the heart of the national capital. They voted against a resolution condemning China for repeatedly showing Arunachal Pradesh as their territory. The most surprising part of this anti-national act of communists is that this news, which should have rung alarm bells in the civil society, went quite unnoticed.

The resolution at the JNUSU meeting was brought by two Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) councillors, Zinniah and Manoj. The resolution was defeated by 11 votes, as most of the councillors from Left outfits-Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Federation (AISF) and All India Students Association (AISA) voted against it. The one line resolution read: “The Council condemns the Republic of China for continuing to show Arunachal Pradesh as part of its territory.” In all, the council discussed 33 items on its agenda. The resolution on Arunachal Pradesh was the eighth item on the list.

“Instead of taking a strong note of China’s inconsistent policy towards Arunachal Pradesh, the SFI and the AISF showed a softness as if Arunachal Pradesh is not a part of India,” said Madhumita Chakraborty, JNU unit president of NSUI. She said that SFI, AISF and AISA representatives voted against the motion, thereby confirming that they actually support the Chinese claim on Arunachal Pradesh being a part of Chinese territory. “Their voting against the motion is a betrayal of the very Constitution of our country and has exposed the anti-national character of the Left,” she said.

The SFI is the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), a major constituent of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA); AISF is affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI), another Left constituent of the UPA; while the All India Students Association (AISA) is the student outfit of CPI-Marxist and Leninist. AISA’s Mona Das heads the JNUSU.

“Arunachal Pradesh is very much a part of Indian territory and the people of Arunachal Pradesh have affirmed the pan-Indian character of the Congress by giving it a positive mandate in the recently held Assembly elections in the state, rejecting all separatist and isolationist forces,” she added. Taking strong exception to the SFI-AISF-AISA’s stand on Arunachal Pradesh, she said that the people of the country knew the Left’s history of betrayals.

Should the Human Resources Development Minister not take note of this? There are reports that the Chinese Communist Party will send a delegation of young activists to India to learn about the Hindu ethos. If the trip materialises, the visitors may pick up a few things about communism from here, just for the sake of avoiding a repeat of the cultural revolution. One wonders whether the lunatic fringe of the Left is using the JNU as a laboratory to formulate a new national trade and foreign policy for the UPA government? Red China never had use for them in the first place.
