By Dr R.L. Bagga

Under the Constitution of India, the Governors are appointed by the President for five years. They can be removed for acts of omission or commission and violation of the Constitution, after giving them a fair and meaningful opportunity to explain.

Recently the UPA government removed Governors of four states, without giving any reason. On being pressed, Home Minister Shivraj Patil at the behest of Her Majesty, stated that they were removed as they were associated with RSS and their vichardhara (Hindutva) was not compatible with that of UPA. This is in fact looking at things with a squinted eye and a motivated angle.

Ironically, both former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani are associated with RSS. In the previous elections, the BJP and its allies (NDA) were elected with majority by the people. During their rule of six years they took the country to new heights of growth, infrastructure, national highways, foreign exchange, etc. and earned prestige, respect and acclaim from world community. This has been supported and acknowledged by the recent pre-Budget survey.

It is a pity that the Congress has always been giving a step-motherly treatment to the Hindus. Before Partition they unsuccessfully tried to woo the Muslim League but the Muslim League got the country partitioned on the basis of “two-nation theory” to give birth to Pakistan. Strangely, the Congress is still having Muslim League as its partner in Kerala and has also created a Muslim-majority district of Malabar.

The Congress and its allies are harping on consequential Gujarat riots and contemplating fresh inquiry. They rarely talk about Godhra incident where 58 Hindus (including women and children) were roasted alive. Some subversive elements, like SIMI are still engaged in anti-national activities. In the recent case of killing of four terrorists in Ahmedabad, in spite of positive proof available with the police from different states, the secularists are asserting that Javed and Ishrat were innocent and the shoot-out was fake.

Shri Kailashpati Mishra, who was recently removed as Governor of Gujarat, in his farewell speech asserted, “I am proud to be associated with RSS which is a university to inculcate patriotism and character building.” The vichardhara “Hindutva is a way of life as also stamped out by the Supreme Court.” It is this magical spirit which during 600 years of Muslim rule and especially the atrocities committed by Aurangzeb, inspired people like Shivaji and Guru Teg Bahadur to wage a long struggle and make supreme sacrifices. It is due to grace and sacrifices of such luminaries, Mr Home Minister, that we have been able to preserve our present identity and still constitute 85 per cent of the population.
