Public hearing for rural women
Rashtra Sevika Samiti and Mangayar Mangalam organised a public-hearing programme with the help of National Commission for Women (NCW) in Tutucorin district of Tamil Nadu. A panel of jury for the said programme was constituted, which comprised of Shri Thiagarajan, a retired district judge, Smt. Gowri Tulasi, an advocate, Smt Indhumathi, an advocate, Smt. Vasantha Vijaysingh, a social worker, Shri Thandeswaran, an educationist and Shri Parthiban, a journalist. A large number of rural women from Tutucorin district attended the programme. Petitions of various types, especially those related to matrimonial problems, property disputes, malpractices and sexual abuse at workplace, cheating, etc., were received by the jury from the grief-stricken women. A total of 48 petitions were received. On every petition the jury arrived at a recommendation, which was subsequently forwarded to the NCW for action, help and support.
