From Ravindra Saini
Vishwa Samvad Kendra (VSK) of Patna and Dehradun celebrated the Maharishi Narad Jayanti by organising seminars on different topics. The seminar on May 6 in Dehradun was attended by Dainik Jagaran news editor, Ashok Pandey, UNI bureau chief, P.K. Sarkar and famous thinker K.N. Govindacharya. The subject of the seminar was ?Journalism?Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow?. Shri Govindacharya described Maharishi Narad as a true journalist for whom public interest was supreme. He said that growing consumerism was an obstacle in public interest. He appealed to journalists to decide certain ethics for themselves also. ?If truth and public interest have no place in journalism, it would become meaningless,? he added. Apart from other dignitaries, Lakshmi Prasad Jaiswal, Uttaranchal Prachar Pramukh, and president of Uttaranchal VSK, Dayachand Jain also attended the function.
According to a report received from Patna, the Vishwa Samvad Kendra honoured two veteran journalists, Shri Amrendra Sinha and Awadh Kumar Jha on Maharishi Narad Jayanti celebrated on May 9. Speaking at the seminar organised to celebrate the occasion, eminent author and professor of political science at Delhi University, Dr Rakesh Sinha said that the country was facing the challenge posed by the cultural invasion. ?This cultural war is more menacing than a direct one. It is an irony that in a nation like ours we celebrate Mother'sDay and Father'sDay. By celebrating the Narad Jayanti and Vishwakarma Jayanti, we could give the West a befitting reply,? he said, while thanking the VSK for remembering the first journalist, Maharishi Narad.
Dr Sinha criticised the mindset of some journalists who had tarnished the image of India during the Godhra carnage. Presiding over the function, Awadh Kumar Jha dwelt upon the responsibility of journalists when sending their reports and their contributions. ?It is we who create satyuga and kaliyuga,? he said. He requested the VSK to organise regular seminars and symposia.
