Himalaya Parivar, a prominent organisation dedicated to the cause of protecting the Himalayas and its unique culture, has decided to observe Vriksha Bandhu (Friend of Trees) campaign from July 2 (Vyas Poornima) to August 29 (Raksha Bandhan). Under the campaign multi-purpose trees will be planted in specially created Himalaya vatikas (nurseries) in different regions of the Himalayas. The decision was taken at a meeting of Himalaya Parivar held in New Delhi. The meeting, which was presided over by Shri Indresh Kumar, Akhil Bharatiya Sah-Sampark Pramukh of RSS, who is also convener of the organisation, also decided to organise a Himalayan Youth Parliament in the first week of November. Youth from Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Tibet, Afghanistan, and other countries are expected to participate in the parliament. The meeting also decided to organise a kavi sammelan on July 4 to celebrate the birthday of H.H. the Dalai Lama, which falls on July 6. A seminar too will be organised on May 15 to celebrate the 147th anniversary of the first freedom movement of 1857. The Himalaya Parivar has been celebrating the year 2004 as ?Tibet Year? to extend moral support to the peaceful movement of Tibetan people for liberating their homeland from the clutches of China.
